OSSD Graduation Requirements

Students must earn a total of 30 credits from Grades 9 to 12, including:

Students receive 1 credit for each course successfully completed with a minimum grade of 50%.

Each student must complete a minimum of 40 hours of community involvement activities. This requirement encourages students to develop an understanding of their role in the community and fosters a sense of belonging and civic responsibility.

Students must demonstrate essential competencies in reading and writing by either:

Ontario Education Number (OEN)

Each student receives a unique 9-digit Ontario Education Number that follows them throughout their secondary education and serves as their key identifier.

Ontario Student Record (OSR)

A confidential, comprehensive record of each student’s
educational progress, including report cards,
transcripts, and important documents.

Report Cards

Detailed report cards following Ministry of Education
templates, issued at midterm and final, showing
percentage grades, learning skills, and teacher comments.

Ontario Student Transcript (OST)

A complete record of all secondary school creditcourses taken, recognized by post-secondary institutions across Canada and worldwide.

Prior Learning Assessment (PLAR)

For students entering after Grade 9, we assess
previous transcripts and grant equivalent OSSD credits
for prior learning.

English Placement Test

Ensures students have the English language
proficiency needed to succeed in the academically
rigorous OSSD program.
